Explanation of the final situation
As it may not be obvious how Red is connected, let's assume Blue plays some further moves. The first plan is to cut the f4 group from the top.
Since c3 is connected to the top via Template IIIa, there's nothing more to do here. The next weak point is g6.
One last try in the lower right corner:
Now Red is connected via simple two-chains, and that's what Blue saw when he resigned.
